Decarbonization of Macau: Pathways to a Carbon-Neutral Future
On October 28th, FMCC had the pleasure of inviting Mr. Laurent Pelletier, CEO of Veolia Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, at The FMCC Breakfast Talk Rendez-Vous.
Mr. Pelletier focused on Macau’s growing municipal solid waste challenge, which increased by 5.1% between 2023 and 2024, and stressed that expanding local waste treatment facilities is limited by scarce land availability. Instead, he highlighted the practical strategy of leveraging existing waste treatment infrastructure in the Greater Bay Area, with local pretreatment and processing to optimize efficiency.
He also outlined the dominant role of Macau’s commercial sector in energy consumption and the city’s ongoing efforts to improve clean energy sourcing and waste management as part of its long-term decarbonization goals.
Sincere thanks to Mr. Pelletier for his expert perspectives and thank all attendees for joining this important discussion. We look forward to welcoming you at future FMCC events!
