Macau’s casino operators are waiting for the draft legislative roadmap and details of the application criteria that will determine the next generation of casino concessionaires. It’s the biggest game in town, but the rules of the game are unknown with less than a year before the first key deadline for the concession renewal/replacement process. Few in the industry have openly objected to the government’s silence amid various reviews, but the lack of clarity is beginning to unease equity analysts and others as time weighs on a very different Macau administration from 20 years ago. This presentation will offer a selection of pertinent developments in 2018, watch points, obstacles and perhaps a few uncomfortable questions about the politics, process and players that will craft the next era of gambling operations in Macau.
